Guard Tiles is a next-generation concept for phone case substitute and protection, leveraging on sustainable materials and domestication of industrial tools. slabs of economical plywood are laser-cut to create the product in a 2D block, accurate enough to create mini-living hinges that bend around the curvature of the phone. It uses plant-based Papira foam and bio-degradable wood sap adhesive that are placed on pre-determined positions which act as shock-absorbers and hold onto all 4 corners of the phone. Home laser cutters will enable many people to produce it for mass-adoption which will disrupt the phone case industry which uses much unrecyclable plastics or metals. The design is also sleek and minimal, and can be modified for each phone models layout. Shown below is 3D-printed prototype for the Iphone 11 Pro.
